The best invite of all is one from a friend.

200 Words is a new column where people we admire write 200 words about anything they want.

—————————————————————————————

My best friend is in town from another continent, where she moved a little over a year ago. We met for drinks upon her arrival last Thursday. I was starving, so I ordered pasta—it was gross.

“Where are you going after?” She asked me.

“Nowhere! Just home.” I told her.

She looked confused.

“I thought you had plans, it’s fashion week!”

“No, no plans!”

Sometimes even your closest friends think you are more popular than you actually are.

“Amazing! Come with us for dinner?”

She and her brother—who I also adore—were going to the always delicious Gjelena.

“I thought you wanted to have dinner… just the two of you!”

“No Mandy, you have to come!”

Even though it felt wrong to be at Gjelena and not be eating, I was so happy with the surprise addition of time together.

The next day was spent texting and laughing while we tried to finish our catch up from the night before.

I told her I felt embarrassed for assuming she would not be excited to have dinner with me.

“I’VE MISSED YOU AND I’M BEING WEIRD.” I sent.

She replied “ME TOO.”
