Sophia Ziskin is having more fun than you: playing the Do Lab at Coachella in head-to-toe Skims, DJing on jetskis, pouting back at you from a glossy MAC cosmetic display, making out with The Dare at the Grammys. Now, she's dropping her first single “Ima go down”—a sparkling, skuzzy, bass-heavy banger that sounds exactly how tossing your hair in the center of a sweaty dancefloor feels.
The model and DJ behind the LA party series Heatstroke takes us behind the booth to tell us what it takes to transition from playing songs she loves to creating her own alongside 100 gecs’s Dylan Brady.
You’ve been part of the Charli xcx extended universe since Brat began, and had a major moment on stage at the 2025 GRAMMYs. How has your life changed since then?
My life has gotten way more fun since then. I think people just needed to see me serve on television for a sec. Thanks Charli
What’s a feeling you’re always chasing on a night out?
Freedom
Is your new track more inspired by your time partying in LA or NY?
Absolutely New York. LA is my favorite place ever; it’s my home, but it is quite sleepy. New York is electric, especially with the dance music scene, and I think the track reflects that. I don’t wanna scare the Silver Lake Reservoir walkers with my beat drop.
Tell us about your creative process.
I tend to figure out the drums first, then build everything around that. Other than that, it's different every day.
What was the most surprising challenge you faced creating your own music?
I think it’s hard for me to specify my sound, because I genuinely love so much music and am fascinated by making all types. Just when you think you’ve made something that feels just right, you make something else that feels even better, and you’re back to square one. It’s definitely more helpful when you’ve nailed your sound. I'm working on that every day.
What was it like working with Dylan Brady?
I mean, he’s literally a wizard. But, like, the most chill wizard ever. It’s very fun watching him work.
The lyrics to the song are super simple—how did you land on them? How do you approach songwriting in general?
For "Ima go down" I just needed a little something people could mouth. But typically, I’ve never thought of a line first, it always starts out with gibberish and melodies.
If you’re going down, who do you want to be going up?
A hot guy
What’s your dream place to hear this song in the wild?
Coachella 2030
You just played the Do Lab at Coachella. What was going through your head on stage?
Gratitude, because the Do Lab means a lot to me. And also, I hope my friends are having fun
You’re DJing your favorite club. You put on “Ima go down.” What do you hope to see in the crowd?
Shock on male faces
